The following biography was augmented by PRS staff.
George Anthony was born on 16 January 1762 in Hunterdon County, New Jersey.
In September 1825, in Jackson County, Ohio, George sat for a deposition to secure a military pension. He states he is 63 years old. He enlisted at Trenton, New Jersey, in June 1778 in the company of Captain Zebulon Pike of the 4th Continental Regiment of Light Dragoons, commanded by Colonel Stephen Moylan. From his enlistment to October 1779, he served as the company Trumpeter; after that, he served as a Private until Major Bull discharged him at Lancaster on 26 April 1781. He recalled that he was in the battles of Springfield and Elizabethtown, as well as several skirmishes.
He married Catherine Susan Piper in about 1783. She was born on 20 September 1765 and died on 7 April 1832. Among their known children were:
Henry was born on 1 January 1784 and Catherine Kreips.
Nicholas was born on 5 February 1786 and married Mary Elder.
Jacob was born on 10 June 1788 and married Mary Ellen Davis.
William was born on 13 February 1791 and married Mary Eads.
George was born on 15 March 1795 and married Jane Elarton.
Susanna was born on 30 November 1798 and married Thomas Clearwater.
Phillip was born on 7 September 1801 and married Hannah Timberman.
David was born on 7 April 1804 and married Nancy McGrady.
Jonathon was born on 7 December 1807 and married Sarah Parkins.
After Susan’s death, he married a second time to Elizabeth Redd on 2 February 1833. Shortly after that, he made his Last Will and Testament, which named his wife Elizabeth. He leaves her “all the pension money due me from the United States, if any.” It also names his sons Philip, Jonathan, and David.
The Patriot died on 16 August 1833 and was buried in the Bundy-Paine Cemetery in Jackson, Ohio.
