Author: Richard Bishop Andrews

Lieutenant. ROBERT ANDREWS, born 19th June, 1735, at East Glastonbury, Connecticut. He was the son of Elisha Andrews and Ruth Loveland. His Great-Grandfather, John Andrews arrived in America about 1640, probably from Essex, England. John Andrews was one of the early settlers of the ancient town of “Tunxis”, later re-named Farmington, (Hartford County, Connecticut).

On March 4th, 1756, Robert married Delight Kellogg at Colchester, Connecticut. Delight was the daughter of Nathaniel Kellogg and his wife, Elizabeth Williams. Robert and Delight lived for a time in Windsor, and Coventry, Connecticut, where some of their children were born, then moved to Brimfield, Massachusetts, where more were born, then to Pittsford, Rutland County, Vermont. They had seven children:

Ludim, born 17th Oct., 1756, at Windsor, Ct. Married 18th Feb., 1787, Lois Davis.

Robert, born 17th March, 1759, at Coventry, Ct. Married 1782, Eunice Needham.

Delight, born 26th Feb., 1761, at Coventry, Ct. Married 29th Nov., 1787, Wareham Abbott.

Appleton, born 11th March, 1763, at Brimfield; Mass., Married 9th Sept., 1784, Rhesa Corbin.

Kellogg, born 19th July, 1766. Married 25th Nov., 1790, Cynthia Houghton.

Zelotes, born 26th Nov., 1768. Married 9th Sept., 1798, Betsey Wicker.

Ladocia, born 6th April, 1777.

It is also noteworthy that Robert and Delight’s first son, Ludim Andrews, born October 17th 1756 in Brimfield, Massachusetts, also fought in the Revolutionary war and was at the Battles of Saratoga and Bunker Hill.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
