Served as Colonel of militia in War of 1812

Coat of arms carved into obelisk. Consists of the arms of principle coat of arms of Ambler quartered with those of Jaquelin and Ambler. Quartering refers to the division of the shield into quarters, denominated as: 1st (upper left), 2nd (upper right), 3rd (lower left), 4th (lower right).

Blazon (heraldic description) is as follows:

Ambler: Sable, on a fess, between three pheons argent, a lion passant guardant gules (cf. image)
Cary: Argent on a bend Sable three roses argent (cf. image)
Jaquelin: Or, three horse’s heads erased Gules (cf. image)

Quarters 1 and 4 feature arms of Ambler. Quarters 2 and 3 are further quartered with the arms of Cary and Jaquelin, whereby Quarters 1 and 4 are that of Jaquelin; Quarters 2 and 3, Cary.

Motto on scroll is in Latin: “AUDANCES FORTUNA JUVAT TIMIDOSQUE REPELLIT”. Translation:
“Fortune helps the brave and drives off the timid”. Above the crest (horse’s head) is a scroll with phrase in French, which reads “Comme Je Trouve”. Translation: “As I find it”.
