This biography was augmented by PRS Staff.

Michael Alspaugh was born on 23 October 1748

In August 1776, he began a six-month tour, serving as a Lieutenant in the company of Captain Godfrey Lidie or Suidle, commanded by Colonel Baltzar Gehr, with the Pennsylvania troops in the Revolutionary War. During this period, he participated in the Battle of Trenton. [Editor’s note: I was unable to locate either of these officers in contemporary records].

In early 1777, he was drafted and served a month as a Lieutenant under Major Lindeman. In about 1779, he served an additional three-month tour as a Lieutenant, again under Major Lindeman.
As early as 5 November 1832, Michael’s brother John made a deposition regarding his brother’s military service. This is odd, as there is no copy of Michael’s own deposition.

Given his age, there are undoubtably other marriages attributed to this man; additional research is needed. We do know that late in life, he married Eve Everett on 28 September 1834 in Fairfield County, Ohio.

He died on November 10, 1836 and is buried in Betzor Churchyard, 3798 Pickerington Road, NW, Carroll, Ohio. There is an unreadable tombstone with a DAR marker at a gravesite listed on this site as Lieut. Michael Alspauch (which is spelled incorrectly as well, as seen in the DAR plaque on the gravesite). The cemetery is the same, the plaque is the same, so it's reasonable to assume they are the same person.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
