Stephen Alexander (1749-1831) served five months as lieutenant, under Capt. William Houston, North Carolina troops, and received a captain's commission, which he held until the close of the war. In 1843 his widow applied for a pension, which was allowed. He was born and died in Mecklenburg, N. C.

This day personally appeared before me Thomas S. Rankin, an acting Justice of the peace in & for said County Martha Alexander, an applicant for the benefit of pensioners made by the act of Congress passed July 4th, 1843 and being duly sworn made oath to the following declaration (Viz.) that she is now in her 90th year of her age, that she is the widow of Stephen Alexander who was an officer in the Army of the revolution – That he served a five months tour as Lieutenant in the State of South Carolina as set forth in William Carrigan's affidavit and that shortly thereafter he received a Captain's commission which he held until the close of the war & was often out on duty – but that she is not able now to state the particulars –That she & Stephen Alexander were married on the 19th of September 1771 and that he died on the 26th day of June 1831 aged 82 years – and that she has not since been married – Sworn to and subscribed the first day of September 1843.

This day personally appeared William Carrigan of the State & County aforesaid (aged 83 years) before me Nath'l Sims one of the Justices of peace in and for said County, being duly Sworn according to law, doth on his Oath make the following declaration to the case of Martha Alexander an applicant for a benefit of the provision made by the Act of Congress passed July 4, 1836. That Martha Alexander is the widow of Stephen Alexander Dec'd And that said Stephen
Alexander was a Lieutenant in the Army of the Revolution General Griffin Rutherford's Brigade [sic, Griffith Rutherford], Colonel Francis Locke's Regiment and Captain William Houston's Company. He further swears he was well acquainted with the said Stephen Alexander and that he served in a five months campaign with Alexander in the State of South Carolina in the fall and winter of 1779 & 80 in which campaign the said Stephen Alexander Served as a Lieutenant. He further Swears that he has reason to believe and doth believe that the said Stephen Alexander and Martha was married in the year 1771 or 72, and he further knows that she has not since married. He also states that he believes the said Alexander rendered further Service in the Revolution but cannot specify times and places.
