Author: Lt Col Gary Owen Green

Caniel Alderman was borm 11 Mar 1748, Cohansey, Deerfield, Cumberland, NJ; he died 8 Aug 1824, Duplin County, NC) He was married 4 August 1772 to Sarah Newton (b. 20 Oct 1757) Melba Allen writes that "Daniel was of normal physical proportions, always cheerful and ready to meet conditions boldly and make the most of difficulties. He was the soul of Christian manhood and while he did not connect himself with any church, he was a Presbyterian in faith and true to his family and friends. His spirit lives in his descendants. Daniel was a Revolutionary Soldier and served from the state of North Carolina. Much of his family history was taken from the Rev. soldier records." His widow received a pension in 1832 for his service. The will of Daniel Alderman is recorded in Will Book A, page 7 of Duplin County, North Carolina. Service: Enlisted 15 Arp 1781 in Duplin County Militia as Corporal in Captain Coleman’s Company, 10th NC Regiment commanded by Major Griffith McKee.   • Daniel (P-102165), along with his two brothers David (P-102167) and John (P-102169) and his father Daniel Sr (P-336735) , signed a petition to the NC General Assembly 23 Oct 1779, to request that a new county be formed out of Duplin, New Hanover, and Bladen counties to lessen the burden and hardships of travelling long distances for muster courts, elections and other necessary duties.
