Author: Lt George Thomas Gillespie USA
Richard was the son of Ebenezer Adams of New Kent County, VA and grand-son of Richard Adams of Abridge, Essex County, England. He was born in New Kent County, VA, 17 May 1726 and died 2 August 1800 in Richmond, VA at the age of 74. He was buried in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, VA. His Find-A-Grave memorial number is 7025504.
He was a member of the House of Burgesses from Kent and Henrico Counties from 1752 to 1775; attended the Virginia Senate from 1779 to 1782. 
He married Elizabeth Anne Griffin, daughter of Leroy and Mary Ann (Bertrand) Griffin. They had 11 children. The children were: Tabitha, Elizabeth Pressin, Thomas Bowler, Richard, Jr., Anne, William, Sarah (Who married Gov. George William Smith), Alice, Ebenezer, John,  and Samuel Griffin.
