There are 179 burials there, but 14 of them are Revolutionary War patriots. At least 5 original headstones have been replaced; I procured two from the V/A, and the Rochester SAR chapter (of which I was then president) paid for their placement. In 2019, the Pomeroy Patriot Burials program was just getting started. (It's currently going national.) I set out to get one for Hunn Cemetery and was successful in the middle of the Covid-19 outbreak. After I got it, with the blessing of the Town of Canandaigua, they stepped up and installed a handsome flagpole. Both are near the intersection where they are readily visible to all who pass by. Last November 16th, 2023, our chapter and the Canandaigua DAR chapter participated in the Wreaths Across America program. All 14 graves were decorated at the expense of the Rochester chapter. (Actually, 15 graves were marked, including one from the War of 1812.) We have already committed to the same grave marking for 2024 and likely thereafter. The cemetery is regularly mowed and now has a post & rail fence along the frontage, completed in 2018 by a would-be Eagle Scout. There is also a memorial bench in memory of the long-time caretaker who moved the lawn there for many years. -- Compatriot Gary R. Fague, Former Chapter President, Rochester Chapter
